Family Day

Career Trek believes that family and community education and involvement in the program is critical to participants realizing their educational potential. This is especially true for those who have had little or no exposure to the world of post-secondary education.

Image of familyOnce per term at each of the institutions, families and friends are invited out to "Family Day". Family Day provides family and friends with an opportunity to actually participate (watching is not allowed) in the day with the participants. In this way, significant others are able to experience the program firsthand and gain a fuller understanding of what the program does for the participants. Just as importantly, participants are inspired by the fact that family and friends care enough about them to attend the program with them on a Saturday. In order to better facilitate family attendance, Career Trek also provides free bussing for families and friends to attend Family Day.

Career Trek believes that the meaningful involvement of families and significant others is vital in demonstrating to participants that their loved ones are committed to their education in tangible ways. As well, Family Day provides an opportunity for caregivers to become educated themselves. Ultimately, educated and committed families are better poised to help their children make intelligent choices.
